Collection of photographic postcards, most published by J. Beagles & Co. or Rotary Photo, and a few lithographic postcards. Includes depictions individual actors and groups, most from British productions of Shakespeare plays, ca. 1890-1920, but also several from Stratford Shakespeare Festival productions in the 1950s. Shakespeare plays represented include: As you like it (no.1-9), Henry V (no.10-12), King Henry VIII (no.13-15), Macbeth (no.16-20), Merchant of Venice (no.21), Merry wives of Windsor (no.22-28), Midsummer night's dream (no.29-31), Othello (no.32-33), Romeo and Juliet (no.34-42), and Taming of the shrew (no.43-48). Also includes depictions of actors in non-Shakespearean roles (Henry Irving in the title role of Tennyson's Becket (no.49) and Lily Brayton in costume for her part in James Fagan's Prayer of the sword (no.50)); groups shots of unidentified productions (no.51-52); 2 postcards of the theater at the Stratford Festival, Canada (no.53-54); and 6 lithographic postcards from C.W.
