Please consult Curator for assistance Title taken from an engraving of original drawing Artist: Linton was a historical, figure and portrait painter in the vane of George and Charles Cattermole. He was the first president of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour History: Folger has an engraving of this drawing which credits J. Stephenson with the etching and Joseph Greatbach as sculptor. The engraving was published in London by Virtue & Co. and the print notes that the picture is in the possession of the publishers. (ART File S528c2 no.16) (not dated) Subject: Subject is taken from Shakespeare's Coriolanus, Act IV, Sc. 2. Volumnia, Virgilia and Menenius are standing at left and Brutus and Sicinius at right Provenance: Item was purchased by the Folgers from Maggs Bros, March 17, 1927. On the back of the Folger copy in pencil is written 'From the collection of W.S. Hastings.' Cs. #1653
