General notes
Each page contains the date of the month in red, below the day of the week, accompanied by a historical fact and an appropriate quotation from Shakespeare Moreau reproduced this calendar the following year, reformatting it to a regular quarto size and combining multiple date on pages, but keeping the historical facts and Shakespeare quotations (although some minor differences in dates have been located). The 1881 edition is also credited to "a New Yorker," but the introduction is signed J.B.M. (and refers to the success of the previous year's Shakespeare calendar)
