2 women (Rosalind and Celia) stand in front of a garden wall. A man (Orlando) stands at right, his back turned 3/4s to the viewer, facing the two women. The depiction is similar to the standard book illustration for act 1, scene 2 of As you like it, in which Rosalind meets Orlando and gives him her necklace. One of the female figures appears to be holding a chain or necklace though the lack of delineation makes it difficult to discern

Provenance: Drawing was part of a collection of 122 watercolors of Shakespearean scenes, from a private owner by "Sabin" ca. 1898 and sold to the Folgers by Gabriel Wells, April 28, 1920 (ART Inventory 289 no.32 - Case 889)
Item was purchased as part of a collection of watercolors, most of which were attributed to John Massey Wright. This item, however, bears no resemblance to the style of painting employed by Wright. The artist of this work employs a loose style of execution, with faces and features of the figures delineated by spotted brush strokes rather than sharp lines
