Leaf L8, blank, lacking; leaf s7 torn away, except for lower inner corner. Initials and a few capital strokes provided in red paint. Early manuscript notes. Inscription on verso of last leaf "Cokersand Orate p[ro] a[n]i[m]a FFris̃ mathei makerell"; inscription on leaf D3v "RA of Sturbridge"; inscription on title page "Thos Leigh. Ex dono M. Tho. Byrd." In a contemporary English calf binding, blind tooled with double-headed eagle and WG binder stamps, and foliage design frame, intersecting (possibly from Cambridge). Cf. Oldham, J.B. English blind-stamped bindings, plate X, nos. 21, 24, 26; remains of 2 clasps; rebacked; manuscript fragments originally used as pastedowns have been mounted at the front and the back of the book at the time of the repair; inscription on fore-edge "S. Bernardj sup[er] cantica", reading from top to lower edge; in a tailored box. Bookplate of W.T. Smedley; purchased in 1924
