Title devised by cataloger
Date based on style of drawing
Pencil note on back of mat supplies information for title, also suggests J.M.W. Turner as artist (an unlikely attribution)
An engraving of this portrait of Cooke was published in 1812, engraved by E. Scriven after a model in rice paste by G. Bullock (see Harvard Theatre Coll. Cat. of dramatic portraits). Though Bullock is known primarily as a sculptor and cabinetmaker, it is possible that he executed this drawing as well as the model in rice paste
