Artist: The member of the Burney family known as an artist was Edward Francis Burney, who was known to have done a number of dramatic portraits Garrick standing, legs apart, to left, holding baby in left arm. In pencil underneath (on paper to which the drawing has been mounted), "Garrick, Don John, The chances, from an album of sketches by Burney family." Folded leaf, unsigned History: Scene has been engraved by Edward Edwards but this is not the same depiction as the Edwards engraving (see Folger ART File G241 no.51) Provenance: Item is contained in the 17th volume of an extra-illustrated copy of Fitzgerald's Life of David Garrick, after p. 450. The volumes were extra-illustrated in 1903 by Alexander Meyrick Broadley, expanded from 2 volumes to 17. The set was purchased by the Folgers from Albert Meyer & Co.
