Artist: Corbould, as an artist, worked in a variety of mediums but was most well known for his book illustrations, done mostly on a small scale and in the tradition of Stothard. His major contribution to book illustration was his work on Cooke's pocket editions of the English classics, published between 1795 and 1800 and he has been particularly noted for those done to illustrate Samuel Richardson's Pamela. He exhibited at the R.A. from 1777 to 1811. Artist identification is taken from prints matching the drawings Drawings are small and oval. Unlabeled and unsigned History: Drawings appear to have been executed a designs for engravings to illustrate an edition of the plays of Shakespeare, printed in London for Bellamy and Robarts, 1787-1791. The extra illustrated volume in which these washes are contained also include original drawings by other artists, executed for the same edition of Shakespeare. Corbould was responsible for 16 of the illustration designs in the edition though only 2 are represented here.
