The etching shows the upper torso and head of Garrick, to left, vignette (see ART File G241 no.95 copy 3). Etching is listed as Garrick as Romeo in Harv. Cat. entry no. 284 under Garrick's name Sketch was formerly attributed to Thomas Gainsborough because of its provenance, however there is no evidence to link the drawing to Gainsborough and the attribution has been refuted. Drawing is similar to a portion of an etching after a painting by Benjamin Wilson Original: Benjamin Wilson Provenance: Purchased by the Folgers from Pearson, Jan. 1924.
