Caption title on page 1: 'King Charles the First's Eikon basilike: or, the portraiture of his Sacred Majesty in his solitude and sufferings, vindicated' 'Eikon basilike' in the title is transliterated from the Greek A reply to Anthony Walker's 'A true account of the author of a book entituled Eik⁻on basilik⁻e', London, 1692, in which he claimed the true author to be John Gauden, which, according to Madan, in his "New bibliography of the Eikon basilike", is correct, although the "Eikon" probably includes some authentic writings of the King
