Summary
Order resulting from a presentment by the Grand Jury of the Quarter Sessions in the county of Hertfordshire, warning officers of every town to be on guard against the "great multitudes" fleeing the Great Plague in London. In order to prevent the spread of infection, the officers of every town in Hertfordshire were to: send away "all rogues, vagarants, wanderinge persons, and sturdy beggars;" require that all travellers coming from London produce a certificate, signed and sealed by the Lord Mayor, proving that the house from whence they came was not infected; disallow the bringing of rags and compost from London or other infected places into their towns; and make sure that recently arrived "Inmates, Children, put out to nurse, or other persons" came from uninfected places
