Artist: Artist's full name is printed on the back of the poster. Also on the back is a sticker advertising 'Higgin's Art Service'. The sticker gives a New York address and portrays a man bending over a drawing table. Cataloger unable to locate Higgins in art ref. sources History: Drawing was more than likely done for a poster design Item is a poster design, a bust portrait, right profile of Walter Hampden as Othello. The face is drawn onto brown paper with charcoal or a lithographic pencil. The brown paper has then been cut out and pasted onto the poster board. Othello's costume has been painted with tempera, onto the brown paper and poster board. Title is taken from the two words lettered in the top corners of the poster Provenance: Item was purchased by the Folgers from Van Nosdall in July of 1926 Subject: Hampden was an American born actor who worked in both London and New York. He is noted in Who's who in the theatre as playing Othello at the Shubert Jan. 1925.
