General notes
Title from item
State and dimensions from New Hollstein
Numbered "2" in plate, upper right corner. From a set of nine prints depicting the ceremonial robes of the English nobility. Numbering added in the second or third states, published by John Bowles under the title Hollar's Habits, or, The nobility in their creation robes, ca. 1732. (from Pennington)
According to Pennington, the designs derive from the larger engravings in Richard Glover, Nobilitas politica vel civilis, 1608 (STC 11922). Hollar changed only the heads and the ruffs making the latter more contemporary in style
