Artist: Jones was the author of several works on ornamental design and one of the forerunners in chromolithographic book illustration in 19th century England (see Friedman. Color printing in England. p51). Warren collaborated with Jones on at least two other publications
First item in the volume is a hand painted half-title reading 'Illuminators Owen Jones and Henry Warren. On Stone A. Warren.' The second item in the volume is a hand painted title page giving the title noted above. Twenty three of the items are full page illustrations of the scenes with decorative borders and the other 23 are full page graphic designs with quotations lettered on top of gold leaf backgrounds surrounded by ornamental borders. Pages measure 11 3/4 x 8 1/2 in., painted surfaces measure 9 x 7 in. and none are signed. Binding title reads 'The Winter's Tale Drawings by Owen Jones and Henry Warren'. The binding is initialed M.U. and dated 1902 on the inside of the back cover. The bookseller attributes the binding to Mary H. Upton

Provenance: Item was purchased from the combined sale of the library of Mark P. Robinson and a collection of rare books in fine bindings from Riviere & Son, held by the Anderson Galleries, April 29, 1918. Item was no.838 in the catalog of the sale. The catalog dated the item around 1845
