Imprinted "V.W.& Co. 18 Dutch St. NY" on bottom. Rob Roy Kelly's "American wood type: 1828-1900" dates Vanderburgh, Wells & Co.'s use of this imprint to 1864-1867, and although the blank block could have been prepared long before it was put to use, the cost of materials makes that unlikely
