From donor's description: One of two Gouache drawings for Ballets based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Richard II. Dated 1935 Paris and signed John Lear. Perfect condition with no foxing, tears, creases, etc. I think these may have been done as illustrations for a book but it's just as likely they were drawn as costume sketches. Large size about 14 by 10 inches, not matted or framed. Unique and hence, rare. The Romeo and Juliet ballet could have been the one composed by Prokofiev in September 1935 Gift of Mark Sieling
