Many of the landscape engravings in Harding's work were executed by Thomas Medland or Sparrow, though this particular engraving gives no credit to an engraver on the plate. This wash was possibly taken from the Sylvestre print by one of Harding's engravers as a preliminary design for the plate, or it may have been drawn from the published engraving History: Drawing was executed for, or copied from, a plate to Harding's Shakespeare illustrated, London : S&E Harding, 1793 (see ART Vol. e32, p. 80) Provenance: Item is housed before p. 21 in volume 11 of a 21 volume extra-illustrated copy of the 1857 edition of Shakespeare, edited by Dyce and formerly owned by Robert Hoe.
