Summary
Oval portrait, half length; turned slightly left; wearing cap, rochet and stole; book in his left hand. Decorated framework with coats-of-arms above and clawed paws below. Dated "Ao 1616" in the lower left of the frame. In lower margin, four Latin elegiac couplets beginning "Quam bene (clare Pater) designans nomina - vista."

General notes
Title from lettering around oval portrait Between A.M. Hind's states 1 and 2. The original imprint (Compton Holland excudit) and signature to the verses (A.H.) erased; a subsequent imprint in lower margin partially erased, but fully legible ("Are to be sould by [John Hind]"). In the last line of text, the word "digne" is worn, but not yet incorrectly replaced by "diane." Before cross-hatching; the view in the background still present, but details of buildings replaced with lines Advertised in Stent's 1662 "A catalogue of books, pictures, and maps" (Globe, p. 184)
