In verse The engraved frontispiece portrait, which is the first published portrait of Milton, is signed: W.M. sculp:, i.e. William Marshall The first leaf is blank "Joannis Miltoni Londinensis Poemata" has separate dated title page, pagination, and register. It was probably also issued separately (cf. Wing M2159). "A mask of the same author presented at Ludlow-Castle, 1634" has separate dated title page; pagination and register are continuous Variant: last line of imprint has "in Pauls" in place of "in S. Pauls" Annotation on Thomason copy: "Jan: 2d"
