Frontispiece and other plates dated 1879 Originally issued as 56 semi-monthly parts Paged continuously, with double pagination at foot of pages, the first at center (1468 pages) includes the Preface to [v. 1] and the abridgment of Knight's Life of William Shakespeare; the second paging (1725 pages) under the outside columns includes the introductions to the plays and the notes; there are also two sets of signatures, the first in smaller type in fours, the second, larger, in eights (this latter set begins with "22" at p. 337 or 407 respectively, of the outer pagination)
