Whittingham for Sherwood, Neely, and Jones Frontispiece portrait of Shakespeare, v. 1, engraved by R. Page Several variant states noted. Vol. title page vignettes vary consistently by set: v. 1 is either a jug on a table, or a seated man with snakes. Title page to Romeo and Juliet, v. 2, reads either "A tragedy" or "A comedy." Original publisher's printed paper spine labels is either a long one containing the phrase "With embellishments from Thurston's designs" and has price 1/2/6, or a short one reading "Shakspeare in nine volumes" with price 31/6
