General notes
Published in open competition with Jacob Tonson In 1734 and 1735 a collection of the whole of the plays was published, but cannot be regarded as an edition, though generally recorded as such when bound up in 7 volumes (Ford) Walker published single plays separately, then issued volume title pages for binding in 7 volumes. No two sets will be the same, individual plays differing as to edition/issue. Volume title pages for volumes 1-3 dated 1734; volumes 4-7 dated 1735. Each play has a dated title page, as well as separate pagination and register. See Ford (p. 58-140) for imprint and pagination information for individual plays, as Walker used 13 imprints (seemingly simultaneously), sometimes for different issues of the same play Contains the plays only There is no general title page; volume title pages printed in red and black Most engravings lettered: J. Smith; some unlettered. Vol. 1 with a "crude frontispiece after the style of Rowe's 1714, printed partly in red" (Ford) Includes an abbreviation of the Life of Shakespeare by Nicholas Rowe in v. 1 Some plays with title page statement "as it is acted at the theatres." Some plays with advertisements for R. Walker Also available as a digital reproduction
