Extra-illustrated and expanded to 43 volumes with over 5,000 prints, photographs, playbills, music, and autograph letters collected by Augustin Daly and arranged by Henry Blackwell. Illustrations include scenes from Shakespeare, portraits of actual people mentioned in the plays and of actors, numerous prints of national costumes and furnishings, and prints and souvenir photographs of settings for Shakespeare's plays. Also includes other printed works: v. 39-40 is a copy of of William Shakspere : a biography / by Charles Knight (London : Charles Knight and Co, 1842) and v. 42-43 consist of the Appendix and Doubtful plays from an unidentified edition.
