The "Shakspere Apostles" were founded in 1851, and began regular meetings in 1852. The group's name was changed to the Shakspere Society by 1861. By the late 1850s, food had become an important component of meetings The publication for each year consists of the menu for a dinner, a list of toasts and passages for discussion
