General notes
Mostly in verse. Includes original poems as well as translations of other authors. Some were originally published in his "Poems and translations" of 1647 (Wing S5243); others are new Place of publication and printer's name from Pforzheimer catalogue In five parts. Part 1, "Poems" has separate pagination and register. Parts 2-5, "Anacreon. Bion. Moschus. Kisses", "Excitations", "Sylvia's Park", and "A Platonick discourse upon love" each have separate dated title page; pagination and register are continuous Signatures: a-e⁸ f⁴ A-K⁸ L⁴ M-R⁸; ²A⁴ B-F⁸ G⁴ Part 1, "Poems", and Parts 2-5 possibly issued separately. Thomason apparently received them separately Leaf f4 is blank and the leaf following p. 164 (L4) is blank With a reissue of Stanley's translations of "Aurora Ismenia and the prince" by Juan Pérez de Montalván and "Oronta the Cyprian virgin" by Girolamo Preti (Wing P1468) added at the end. When Wing P1468 is combined with Wing S5241 (or S5242, its reissue), the second sheet H is cancelled since it contains a translation of "Oronta the Cyprian virgin" by Girolamo Preti which is already included in Part 1 "Poems" (pp. 181-194) Apparently both Wing S5241 and S5242 were also issued without the addition of Wing P1468 Annotation on Thomason copy (part 2): "Tho: Stanley" follows 'incerto authore' on title page; "Decemb: 30th"
