For the relation of Roper, Wilkinson, Clavel, Baldwin, Boyer, etc. to this and other publications, see Morison, S., English newspaper, p. 55-70 Began May 16 (or 14), 1695 as The Post boy, with foreign and domestick news; from no. 15 to no. 70 it was merged with R. Baldwin's Historical account of the publick transactions in Christendom as The Post boy, and historical account, &, with foreign and domestick news; from no. 71 (after Baldwin de-merged) to sometime in 1711 (after no. 2436 but before 2664) it was called The Post boy, with the freshest advices, foreign and domestick, after which it was called The Post boy (or Post-boy) to no. 6130; from no. 6131 (Oct. 1, 1728) to 8004 called The Daily post-boy. When the Treaty of Utrecht was news, nos. 2766-2767 were entitled Pax, pax; or, A pacifick postboy; nos. 2806-2809, Pax, pax, pax; or, A pacifick postboy. There were supplemental issues called Postscript to the Post-boy; these duplicated the numbers of the main set When Baldwin withdrew (after no. 70) he immediately issued a rival publication, The Post man, beginning its numbering with 72 (Oct. 22-24, 1695) Abel Boyer began writing for The Post boy in 1705 and caused two cuts to be used in its heading, imitative of the heading of Baldwin's Post man; when Boyer was dismissed by Roper he began his own Post boy, continuing the numbering (beginning with 2227, Aug. 1709) of Roper's Post boy and using identical cuts No. 10 Printed and sold by John Whitlock; no. 13 Printed by J.
