Summary
A poetical and prose miscellany with both prose and poetry, with many epitaphs and epigrams, mainly humorous. Leaf 17 is "An Extempore Epigram in praise of Shakespeare." Leaves 68-75 are poems by one Dr. Winter. Leaf 98 is an epitaph on Tobias Smollet attributed to Garrick; leaf 108 a jest of James Quin and Charles Macklin. Written mainly in two hands: (a) title and leaves 1-92, (b) 93-111 --- the last entry dated 1776. Some annotations in the first section are in hand (b); two or more additional hands appear scattered through the 2nd section. Sotheby catalog states that it was said to have "been in the hand of Edward Jones, the Welsh bard, who ... added various poems, etc."
