Correspondents: [Christoph] Arnold, Dr. K.G. Carus, Herr von der Hagen, Dr. [Gustav] Waagen, and others. The letters discuss the buying, selling and publication of books by and about Shakespeare. Also mentioned are numerous "reading evenings," when people met to read and discuss literary works. The letters to Dr. Carus are full of news of comings and goings, impressions of people and theatrical performances, and requests for personal, in addition to medical, advice. One letter dated January 1848 (18) to a young author comments on a tragedy he has submitted based on recent historical events. Tieck notes that this was only done once successfully in Henry VIII. (17) accompanied by a newspaper cutting on Tieck. (19) has a poem
