Notes
General notes
The compiler is identified only by a penciled note in a second hand "By my brother Samuel Townsend Esq. dec d TST" written three times in the manuscript. The date is infered only from a reference to "the edition printed by Buckingham at Boston, in 1814" as a model for the proposed edition. This and references to other American editions suggests that Townsend was an American Original marbled boards, with new red roan backstrip (Folger 1953)
