Item information about Folger
Dealer's description: Folio, pp. [xxxii], with one large folding engraved plate signed C.E.R. showing Luther's birthplace in Eissleben; some spotting and foxing; contemporary paste-paper wrappers, corners a little dog-eared; a good copy. First edition, rare, of this depiction and description of Martin Luther’s birthplace. The Luther family had moved there shortly before Martin Luther’s birth. In 1689 the house burnt down, was bought by the town of Eisleben and rebuilt in a more representative fashion in 1693, to do justice to its importance as a commemorative site for Martin Luther. In the nineteenth century a museum was opened
