Artist: Along with the initials on the fronts of the works, there are also notes on the versos in brown ink reading: 'George Webbe Esq. Falmouth, Cornwall delt. & invt. presented to Geo. C. George for his Shakespearean collection.' Webbe is not listed in reference sources consulted Drawings are all executed in the same manner, the majority of the surface being covered in various shades of grey with brown highlights. The skin of the figures is lighted in pink wash. The quotations which the drawings illustrate are written in pencil on the backs of most of the items. Four of the works are initialed in the lower left hand corner 'G.W. 1803 delt.' Provenance: Items have been added to volumes 2, 5, and 7 of an extra illustrated copy of the 1802 Boydell edition of Shakespeare's Works.
