Copper intaglio printing plate, etching and engraving, small area of re-working in the top right corner where the original plate number has been removed. Minor surface scratches but in good printable condition. Second state with plate number removed
Dealer's description: "A fine full length figure in the costume of the Neapolitan Order of the Lioness. This plate was first used in Buonani, Filipo,1638-1725, Catalogo degli ordini equestri, e militari. Rome: Georgio Placco, 1711, as plate 67, and re-used in Coronelli's edition, venice: Presso l'Orlandi, 1715, where it appears as here with the plate number removed."
Plate includes details present in Buonanni edition (embellishments to stones of building at figure's left, angle of tower roof to figure's right) which seem to be lacking in Coronelli edition
