Leaves [*]1, i9 and i10, all blank, lacking; edges trimmed, affecting manuscript notes. Two painted initials on leaf [a]1r, the smaller one at beginning of commentary depicting a Franciscan monk (Thomas Aquinas?), the larger one depicting Boethius and the spirit of Philosophy, with acanthus leaf decoration (coloring and scrollwork possibly influenced by the Göttingen model book?); smaller initials and paragraph marks provided in alternate red and blue throughout the book. Numerous early manuscript notes and underlining in brown and red inks, manicules, brackets; a few corrections and punctuation added by hand in text and commentary. Pencilled note on front free endpaper referring to the Sotheby sale of the library of the Rev. Stephen W. Csutoros (no. 307, May 1, 1928); purchased in 1928.
