"The country girl" is Garrick's adaptation of Wycherley's "The country wife" (which, in turn, is an adaptation of Moliere's "School for wives"). "The country wife" does not have a character named Miss Peggy (see Hazlitt, A view of the English stage, 1906, and character list from Wycherly's A country wife, 1751, both via Google Books accessed Oct. 1 2009)
