Summary
Letters largely concern arrangements for lectures at Harrow School, in Leeds and in Darlington, etc. Corelli proposes topics ("How would you like me to speak on Byron" (1)), includes references to the war in discussings her schedule ("of course I'll speak at Harrow on October 2d - if we're all here, and not invaded or blown up by Zeppelins!! - or gas-poisoned!" (3); "I should be glad to have the Byron lecture at Harrow postponed. It does not seem to me at all the time to give it, during this terrible strain of war" (4)), lists her requirements ("a clear platform (that is, nobody on it) - a table 30 to 31 inches high, covered with a plain dark cloth, and a reflector lamp - that is, one that throws a strong steady light down on the paper" (6)), and refers to conversations with and letters from Dr. Sadler (8-9). She also advocates the cause of Maurice Courbet (9-10), complains about newspaper editors and publishers of "charity books" that are taking the place of the "work of legitimate authors" (14-15), and extols her own contribution to Shakespeare's memory (17-19). She mentions having received a circular from Israel Gollancz "very earnestly soliciting my subscriptions towards the Shakespeare Hut scheme!" before launching into her insistance that "it is but fair, - in fact simple justice to me, that after all I have done for Shakespeare's honor in Shakespeare's Town, my 'homage' should be included in the book he is editing...I do expect that it may be pointed out that it is most marked to leave me out, considering how closely I have been and am connected with Shakespearean work" (17) and declaring "I have no intention of entering into the lists with Israel's 'Homage'" (18). Corelli also sends "the type-written copy of the address I am to give at Shakespeare's School here" (18) and refers to a "solid Gold medal to be competed for every year at this, Shakespeare's Grammar School" (19)
