A note on the facing page reads "The only original drawing extant of my ever beloved mother Anna Maria Ireland after whom my eldest sister, deceased, was christened. W.H.I." The illustration itself is unsigned. A list of the illustrations at the beginning of the volume notes that this portrait was "taken in youth."

Title devised by cataloger The artist was possibly one of the Irelands, Samuel, her husband, having been an amateur artist. Since the work portrays Mrs. Ireland in her youth it is doubtful that William, the author of the note, is the artist, nor does he make claims to be Provenance: Item is added to the last page of William Henry Ireland's extra-illustrated copy of his own work, An authentic account of the Shakespearean manuscripts ... 1796 [i.e. 1804] Subject: Mrs. Freeman (identified here as Anna Maria Ireland) was the mistress of Samuel Ireland and mother of the Shakespeare forger William Henry Color: blue and pink chalk
